Stakeholders Oppose Desmond Elliot’s Fourth-Term Bid as Supporters Rally in Surulere|LAGOS EYE NEWS

A coalition of stakeholders in Surulere has publicly opposed the fourth-term ambition of Desmond Elliot ahead of the 2027 Lagos State House of Assembly elections.

Speaking on behalf of the group, spokesman Olanrewaju Badmus criticized the lawmaker’s performance over his three previous terms, alleging a lack of significant development and measurable progress within Surulere Constituency I.

The coalition stated that their position was not based on personal bias but on what they described as unsatisfactory representation. According to the group, key issues such as infrastructure challenges, youth unemployment, and primary healthcare have not been adequately addressed.

The stakeholders further claimed that Elliot’s tenure has been characterized by limited constituency projects and minimal legislative impact, calling for new leadership with fresh ideas and a stronger focus on grassroots development.

The concerns were echoed by the Surulere Accountability Forum, which emphasized the need for renewed political direction and people-oriented governance in the constituency.

However, in a contrasting development, hundreds of residents and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) staged a rally on Tuesday in support of Elliot.

The supporters commended his representation and urged the party to adopt him as its consensus candidate for the upcoming election.

With opposing views emerging from within the constituency, Surulere Constituency I is shaping up to be a politically competitive landscape as preparations for the 2027 elections gain momentum.
