Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have paid a solidarity visit to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following what both parties described as increasing political pressure on opposition groups in Nigeria.
The statement was signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong on Wednesday. During the meeting, the PDP delegation noted that opposition parties across the country are facing similar challenges, which they say could undermine democratic principles and political plurality.
The party emphasised the need for vigilance and collective action to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.
The delegation was led by prominent PDP figures, including Seyi Makinde, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Adolphus Wabara, and Jerry Gana, alongside other senior party members.
They were received by top ADC leaders such as Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, among others.
In their response, ADC leaders expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as timely amid what they termed an “existential threat” to democracy in Nigeria. They warned against actions that could weaken opposition parties and limit political competition.
Both parties agreed on the need for continued dialogue and collaboration to defend democratic institutions and uphold the country’s multiparty system.
