Former First Lady of Oyo State and Nigeria’s Ambassador to Austria, Florence Ajimobi, has dismissed allegations linking her to an alleged plot to influence members of the Oyo State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde.
In a statement released through her media office, Ajimobi described the claims as “entirely false, baseless, and a deliberate act of disinformation” aimed at damaging her reputation and misleading the public.
The denial follows separate statements by lawmakers, including Gbenga Oyekola and the Deputy Speaker, Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi, both of whom rejected allegations of involvement in any plan to destabilize the state government or receive financial inducements from political actors.
Ajimobi also refuted reports that she hosted or attended any meeting—either in Lagos or elsewhere—where such an alleged plan was discussed.
“At no time did I convene, attend, or participate in any such meeting with any individual or group for the purpose of discussing impeachment or destabilizing the Oyo State Government,” the statement read.
She further described attempts to link her to the allegations as politically motivated propaganda designed to bring her into disrepute, particularly among residents of Oyo State.
Ajimobi added that the activities of the People’s Democratic Party in the state were not her concern, insisting that the claims were rooted in mischief and deliberate efforts to malign her image.
Reaffirming her commitment to peace and democratic principles, the former First Lady maintained that she has never engaged in actions capable of undermining the stability of the state.
She urged the public to disregard the reports, warning that the spread of false information could heighten political tension. The statement also indicated that legal action may be taken if the allegations are not retracted.
Ajimobi concluded by stating that she remains focused on her humanitarian work and societal contributions, and would not be distracted by what she termed “unfounded and mischievous claims.”
