The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Monday held its first substantive hearing in the protracted legal dispute surrounding the Kano Emirate, adjourning proceedings until April 19, 2027.
The adjournment followed preliminary submissions by counsel representing the various parties in the case, marking the latest development in a long-running tussle over the leadership and structure of the historic emirate.
The Kano Emirate crisis has drawn significant public and political attention, particularly after a series of reforms and counter-reforms by the Kano State Government altered the traditional arrangement of the emirate.
The dispute has since triggered multiple legal challenges, eventually reaching the apex court for final determination.
