Iran’s military has issued a strong warning that United States forces would face attacks if they enter the Strait of Hormuz, following remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump about initiating naval escorts in the strategic waterway.
The warning comes amid stalled negotiations between Washington and Tehran, which have remained deadlocked since a ceasefire in the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran took effect on April 8. Control and security of the Strait of Hormuz a critical global oil transit route have emerged as a central point of dispute.
Speaking on Sunday, Trump announced a proposed maritime initiative, dubbed “Project Freedom,” describing it as a humanitarian effort aimed at assisting crews of vessels stranded due to the blockade.
According to him, many ships in the area are reportedly running low on essential supplies, including food.
In response, Iran’s military central command emphasized that any movement through the Strait must be coordinated with Iranian forces under all circumstances.
The statement underscores Tehran’s firm stance on maintaining authority over the waterway while tensions with the United States persist.
