LAWMA Arrests Three for Illegal Waste Dumping in Alapere |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Lagos Waste Management Authority Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team has intensified efforts to curb illegal waste disposal across the state, leading to the arrest of three individuals during an overnight enforcement operation in the Ketu-Alapere area.

The operation, carried out between May 8 and 9, 2026, targeted persistent waste blackspots within the axis as part of ongoing measures to eliminate indiscriminate dumping and improve environmental sanitation.

According to the agency, the suspects were apprehended while unlawfully disposing of waste at unauthorized locations. Investigators subsequently traced the individuals to their respective residences to determine the factors contributing to the violations.

Preliminary findings revealed that the affected properties lacked proper waste storage facilities and had not been registered with designated Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators responsible for waste collection services.

The agency disclosed that all identified properties have been documented and forwarded to the LAWMA legal department for further action in line with environmental regulations.

Authorities also confirmed that all illegal dumping blackspots identified during the surveillance exercise were successfully cleared and mitigated.
