The Lagos State Scholarship Board (LSSB) has recorded major achievements under the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, including the disbursement of over N504.6 million in bursary and scholarship awards to 4,394 beneficiaries across the state.
According to the Board’s year-in-review report, the agency successfully automated its processes and operations to improve efficiency and service delivery.
The Board also introduced a Special Scholarship for Inclusion targeted at People Living with Disabilities (PWDs), as well as multi-dimensionally poor and vulnerable students, in a move aimed at expanding access to education support.
As part of efforts to improve student welfare, the state government approved an increase in bursary and scholarship awards. Bursary payments were raised from N50,000 to N60,000, while scholarship grants increased from N200,000 to N225,000 across all award categories.
The report further highlighted strategic partnerships with private organizations to reward academic excellence. Through a collaboration with RETECH, the top 20 scorers in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Lagos State now receive annual awards.
In another partnership, SOHCAHTOA awarded five indigenous students scholarships worth N250,000 each, while the Oyekan & Oladuni Adeniji-Adele Foundation (OOAAF) provided a two-year sponsorship for two students valued at N100,000 each.
Under the undergraduate scholarship scheme, 748 beneficiaries received N225,000 each, amounting to a total disbursement of N168.3 million.
Additionally, 26 students benefited from the compassionate scholarship category, with a total payment of N5.85 million.
For the inclusion scholarship category, 67 Persons With Disabilities received N225,000 each, bringing total payments to N15.075 million.
Similarly, 81 multi-dimensionally poor and vulnerable students were awarded N225,000 each, amounting to N18.225 million in total support.
Overall, the Lagos State Scholarship Board said the total amount paid to beneficiaries under both bursary and scholarship schemes stood at N504.63 million, reflecting the administration’s commitment to educational development and inclusiveness in the state.
