Lagos residents praised for traffic discipline during festive season |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Lagos State’s Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, has praised residents for what he described as improved compliance with traffic laws during the 2025 festive period.

Mr Giwa said motorists and commuters showed “a high level of civic responsibility” during the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority’s (LASTMA) 24-hour night operations carried out across the city throughout the popular “Detty December” celebrations.

He made the remarks at a New Year event organised to recognise the service of LASTMA officers.

According to him, the festive season, usually marked by heavy congestion, late-night social activities and increased road use, was calmer than in previous years, with fewer disruptions to traffic flow.

Mr Giwa attributed this to what he called voluntary compliance by road users, particularly in high-traffic areas such as Ikoyi, Victoria Island and the Lekki–Ajah corridor, even during late-night hours.

He said the cooperation of residents helped LASTMA carry out its duties more effectively and contributed to improved road safety during the period.

The special adviser also praised Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for supporting reforms in the transport sector, citing investments in infrastructure, logistics, staff welfare and training at LASTMA.

Mr Giwa said these measures had strengthened the agency’s capacity and professionalism.

Looking ahead, he said LASTMA plans to adopt a more technology-driven approach to traffic and incident management in 2026.

This, he explained, would include real-time monitoring systems, faster emergency response mechanisms and data-led operations aimed at reducing road incidents and response times.

Mr Giwa urged Lagos residents to maintain what he described as a growing culture of patience and respect on the roads, stressing that traffic management requires cooperation between authorities and the public.
