Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in the Turkish capital, Ankara, on a state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
The president’s aircraft landed at Ankara Esenboğa Airport at 21:03 local time, where he was welcomed by a Turkish government delegation led by the Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin. Nigeria’s chargé d’affaires in Türkiye, Ambassador Zayyad Abdulsalam, and officials from the Nigerian embassy were also present.
Senior members of the Nigerian delegation later received President Tinubu at his hotel, including the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi; the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake; and the Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa.
Other officials in attendance included the Ministers of Interior, Women Affairs, and Innovation, Science and Technology, as well as lawmakers, presidential advisers and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency.
The visit is expected to focus on deepening cooperation between Nigeria and Türkiye, building on what both sides describe as long-standing cordial relations.
President Tinubu is scheduled to hold talks with his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Several memoranda of understanding are also expected to be signed during the visit, alongside other official engagements.
