The Lagos State Police Command has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit, widely known as the Taskforce, from all traffic control and enforcement activities across the state.
The directive was issued by the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, as part of efforts to streamline traffic management and address longstanding concerns about overlapping responsibilities among enforcement agencies.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the move aims to improve professionalism, accountability, and operational clarity in traffic enforcement across Lagos.
According to the statement, the Taskforce will no longer be involved in traffic-related duties but will continue to carry out its other statutory responsibilities without interruption.
The Command also warned residents against assuming that all personnel identified as “Taskforce” belong to the same unit. It noted that multiple taskforce bodies operate within Lagos, urging motorists and the public to verify the identity of officers before making complaints or allegations.
The Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that all enforcement activities in the state are conducted in line with established laws and best practices. Residents were advised to remain law-abiding and cooperate with recognized security agencies.
