Next in Line? Hamzat Opens Governorship Push with GAC Talks|LAGOS EYE NEWS

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has commenced consultations on his bid to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the state’s chief executive in 2027, starting with a meeting with members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC).

Hamzat, who announced the move via his official social media handle, described the engagement with the GAC an influential body comprising former governors and senior party leaders as frank and productive, saying the discussions centred on the future of Lagos and the quality of leadership it requires.

“Today, I commenced consultations with esteemed members of the Governance Advisory Council. We engaged in sincere and insightful discussions on the future of Lagos and the leadership it demands,” he said.

The deputy governor added that he deeply valued the experience and counsel shared by the council members, framing the consultations as the beginning of a broader process of dialogue ahead of a formal declaration.

“This process is rooted in listening, learning, and collaborating to build a stronger and more prosperous Lagos,” he said.

Hamzat’s opening move signals the early stirrings of the 2027 governorship race in Lagos, with the deputy governor positioning himself as a continuity candidate within the All Progressives Congress.

Further rounds of consultations are expected in the coming weeks.
