The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 23 suspected cultists and recovered five firearms during a series of coordinated operations across multiple parts of the state.
The statewide crackdown, carried out in Ikorodu, Lagos Island, Okoko, Ilasan, Ogba, and Iju, targeted cultism and the proliferation of illegal arms. Police authorities say the operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb violent crimes and dismantle cult networks.
According to the Command, four suspects were apprehended in Ikorodu following intelligence reports linking them to cult-related activities, with preliminary investigations indicating affiliation with the Buccaneers Confraternity, also known as the Sea Lords.
On Lagos Island, operatives arrested nine suspects during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout. In Ilasan, five individuals were taken into custody over their alleged involvement in the cult-related killing of Emmanuel Obioson.
Meanwhile, one suspect believed to be associated with the Eiye Confraternity was intercepted in Okoko while in possession of a firearm.
In a related development, four suspects were arrested in Ogba and Iju for alleged involvement in illegal cult gatherings, assault, and other violent offences. Police also recovered weapons reportedly used in the attacks, while victims are said to be receiving medical treatment.
Items recovered during the operations include five locally made pistols, a toy pistol, 15 live cartridges, three expended cartridges, police and army camouflage face caps, and a jack knife.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism and violent crime. He urged residents to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information.
The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
