The Nigeria Police Force has announced a major operational success following the arrest of 50 suspects linked to terrorism, kidnapping, and armed robbery across the country.
Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, at the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) headquarters in Abuja, police authorities disclosed that the nationwide crackdown led to the recovery of high-grade weapons, including an anti-aircraft launcher and 17 rifles.
According to the police, the operations carried out between January and April 2026 targeted criminal syndicates responsible for violent crimes. Items recovered during the include 111 rounds of live ammunition, 17 cartridges, nine magazines, five walkie-talkie devices, three mobile phones, and a Golf vehicle used in criminal activities.
One of the key highlights of the operation was the dismantling of a 33-member gang accused of terrorism, cattle rustling, and an attack on a Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara State. The Force also confirmed the arrest of suspects linked to the killing of three police officers in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.
In the Federal Capital Territory and neighboring states, police operatives reportedly disrupted criminal networks involved in “one-chance” abductions, car theft, and illegal checkpoint operations. Authorities said these actions have helped reduce threats to public safety and led to the recovery of stolen assets.
In a related development, operatives arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Nasiru Ibrahim, in Benue State. He was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and eight rounds of ammunition. Investigations revealed alleged links to a notorious bandit identified as Janari, who is currently at large. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend him and other members of the syndicate.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to national security, stating that the recent successes demonstrate the police’s resolve to combat crime and ensure justice.
He added that several suspects are set to face prosecution, while operations continue to track down fleeing accomplices and recover more illegal arms.
The Police emphasized that it remains committed to safeguarding lives and property through intelligence-driven policing and sustained nationwide enforcement efforts.
