A roadside vendor has been killed while seven passengers sustained injuries in separate road accidents recorded across Lagos State on Monday, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.
The fatal incident occurred at Okokomaiko, where a Lexus Jeep with registration number SMK 674 HY rammed into a roadside vendor. The impact led to the immediate death of the adult male hawker. Officials of LASTMA responded promptly, securing the scene and evacuating the victim’s remains from the roadway.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force from Ketu Division subsequently conveyed the body to the Badagry Mortuary for further necessary procedures.
In a separate incident, LASTMA personnel also intervened in a collision at Ogudu inward Toll Gate involving a Mazda commercial bus (MUS 231 YA) and a Lexus Jeep (FKJ 23 HL). Seven passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crash.
Emergency response efforts were bolstered by officers from the Ogudu Police Division, while the Lagos State Ambulance Service evacuated the injured victims to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.
Authorities confirmed that all vehicles involved in the accidents have been handed over to the police for further investigation into the causes of the incidents.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, reiterated the agency’s call for increased road safety awareness among motorists. He urged drivers to strictly adhere to traffic regulations, maintain safe speeds, and remain vigilant, particularly during late-night hours when visibility and alertness are often reduced.
