President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, announcing the replacement of two cabinet members in a move aimed at strengthening governance and accelerating economic delivery.
According to a memo from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, has been relieved of his duties and replaced by Taiwo Oyedele, a former Minister of State in the same ministry.
In a related development, Ahmed Dangiwa has also been directed to vacate his position, with the memo indicating that the Minister of State in his ministry will assume responsibility for handover procedures.
Additionally, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and minister designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry.
The reshuffle is expected to take immediate effect, with all handover and takeover processes to be concluded by close of business on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026.
Commenting on the president’s decision, Senator Akume stated that the changes are “aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The Secretary to the Government noted that President Tinubu exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving the reshuffle.
The President has thanked the outgoing ministers for their service while assuring that cabinet reinvigoration will remain an ongoing process.
