The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, qualified to contest for the Yobe East Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Chairman and Chairman of the APC Screening Committee, Nentawe Yilwatda, announced the governor’s qualification after the screening exercise held on Saturday.
Speaking during the exercise, Yilwatda praised Governor Buni’s contributions to the party, noting that he had served the APC in several capacities with distinction.
“Your Excellency, you have been screened multiple times and have also screened others on several occasions. You have served the party in various capacities with glory. You are indeed most qualified for any position. I hereby declare you qualified to contest the senatorial position in Yobe State,” he said.
Also speaking, the APC Deputy National Vice Chairman (South-South), Victor Giadom, described Governor Buni as a leader worthy of emulation.
Giadom recalled serving under Buni during his tenure as acting National Chairman of the APC, adding that the governor possesses qualities needed for national leadership.
“Governor Buni is the type of leader that we should all emulate. He is the type of leader Nigeria needs,” he stated.
Similarly, the party’s National Legal Adviser, Murtala Aliyu Kanka, described the governor as a complete gentleman committed to the welfare of his people.
In his response, Governor Buni commended the APC National Working Committee (NWC) and the screening committee for what he described as a transparent process.
He urged members of the NWC to remain united and committed to strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The NWC is doing a very good job in repositioning the party with great stability, and the party is growing. I congratulate and commend you. I urge you to keep it up in the interest of our party and democracy,” the governor said.
Addressing journalists after the exercise, Buni described the screening process as “free, fair and objective.”
