10 Arrested as Violence Rocks APC Primaries in Alimosho |LAGOS EYE NEWS



The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects in connection with violence that erupted during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in the Egbe area of Alimosho, Lagos State.

The incident occurred on Saturday at Onilewura Street, along Liasu Road, when suspected hoodlums reportedly stormed the venue and fired sporadically, causing panic among party members and residents.

The disruption forced voters, delegates and party officials to flee the scene for safety, while several persons reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries during the chaos.

The suspects were also alleged to have taken advantage of the confusion to rob residents and participants of mobile phones and other valuables.

Confirming the incident, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Femi Adeoye, dismissed rumours that lives were lost during the attack.

According to him, the suspects have been taken to the Ikotun Divisional Police Station for further investigation.
Adeoye added that security operatives recovered one locally made firearm from the suspects during the operation.

“The hoodlums responsible for the disturbance have been arrested and taken to Ikotun Divisional Police Station. A gun was also recovered from them,” he said.

He assured residents and party supporters that investigations would be thorough to uncover those behind the violence and determine their motives.
The police spokesperson also urged residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies by providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations.

Violence broke out on Saturday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State, forcing party members and supporters to flee the venue.

The incident reportedly occurred before the commencement of voting for the party’s House of Representatives primary election for Mushin Constituency II.

The situation triggered panic and a stampede as delegates and party faithful hurriedly vacated the scene to avoid being caught in the unrest.

Among the leading aspirants contesting for the APC ticket were Seye Oladejo and the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Oluwatoyin Fayinka, who is seeking re-election.

Security operatives were said to have intervened to restore calm as tension heightened around the venue.
