The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Governor Seyi Makinde to declare a state of emergency on security following recent attacks and abductions in schools located in Orire Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by the Oyo State APC Youth Leader, Gloryst Olatunji, the opposition party condemned the growing wave of insecurity across the state, describing the situation as a failure of the current administration to adequately protect lives and property.
The APC expressed concern over increasing cases of kidnappings and attacks affecting residents, school communities, travelers, farmers, and families in different parts of the state. The party stated that many citizens now live in fear while accusing the state government of responding to security challenges with “political complacency and media propaganda” rather than decisive action.
According to the statement, the recent attacks on three schools in Orire Local Government Area have heightened fears among parents and residents, with the APC insisting that no responsible government should remain silent while communities are terrorized and children’s safety is threatened.
The opposition party also argued that Oyo State receives substantial monthly allocations and security votes from the Federal Government, stressing that residents deserve visible and effective security measures.
The APC therefore urged the Makinde administration to immediately declare a state of emergency on security, strengthen intelligence gathering, and collaborate closely with security agencies to ensure the rescue of abducted victims.
The party further called on the government to stop politicizing insecurity and prioritize the safety of citizens, warning that continued silence and inaction could worsen the security situation in the state.
The APC expressed solidarity with affected families and urged the government to take urgent steps to restore peace and security across vulnerable communities in Oyo State.
