Police Neutralise Suspected Kidnap Kingpin in Ogun Forest Raid |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have neutralised a suspected kidnap gang leader during a tactical operation in Orile Ilugun Forest along the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway.

The operation was carried out by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit in the early hours of Tuesday, May 19, 2026, following intelligence gathered after the safe rescue of a victim abducted on May 14 at Nufats Fuel Station, Odeda.

Police sources disclosed that operatives stormed the gang’s hideout but came under heavy gunfire from the suspects, leading to a fierce exchange.

During the operation, the suspected gang leader was fatally shot, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds.

Items recovered from the scene included an AK-47 rifle loaded with 20 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, ₦2 million cash, and several mobile phones believed to be linked to the suspects.

The body of the deceased suspect has been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while security operatives have intensified efforts to apprehend fleeing members of the gang.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to sustaining the crackdown on kidnapping and violent crimes across the state.
