Lagos Opens New Fire Station, Expands Emergency Response Network to 25 Facilities |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Lagos State has opened a new fire station as part of a series of infrastructure projects commissioned by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in what officials say represents a significant expansion of the state’s emergency response capacity.

The commissioning, which took place over two days from 8 to 9 April 2026, was performed on behalf of President Bola Tinubu by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Among the projects unveiled is the Tolu School Complex in Olodi Apapa, in the densely populated Ajeromi-Ifelodun area of Lagos.

The complex houses 36 schools, a stadium with 19 mini football pitches, and the new fire station a combination that officials say reflects a deliberate effort to integrate safety infrastructure into community development.

A multi-agency complex named after President Tinubu was also commissioned at the event, which the state government said would improve coordination among emergency and public service institutions.

The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, said the new station brings the total number of fire stations in the state to 25.

She noted it is the eleventh to be delivered under the Sanwo-Olu administration, adding that three more stations are currently under construction, with two additional facilities expected to be completed before the end of the current budget cycle.

Ms Adeseye said the expansion would meaningfully improve emergency response coverage, particularly in high-density communities where rapid intervention has historically been most challenging.

Lagos, Africa’s largest city by population, has long faced pressure on its emergency services infrastructure, with urban growth frequently outpacing the provision of public safety facilities.
