Tinubu Urges Nigerians To Count Blessings Despite Fuel Price Hardship|LAGOS EYE NEWS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked Nigerians to be grateful despite the biting impact of rising fuel prices, arguing that the country’s economic situation compares favourably with that of Kenya and other African nations currently facing deeper crises.

The President made the remarks on Friday during a working visit to Bayelsa State, where he inspected ongoing federal infrastructure projects and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to accelerated development across the Niger Delta region.

Acknowledging widespread public frustration over the cost of living, President Tinubu said: “Yes, I hear you from various angles of the economy. The fuel price is biting hard, but look around, let’s just thank God together that you are better off. Listen to them in Kenya, in other African countries, what they are going through.”

The President used the occasion to commission and inspect key projects in the state, including the New Yenagoa City Road 1, the Angiama–Oporoma Bridge, and the Bayelsa Independent Power Project — describing them as transformative interventions designed to improve access, connectivity, and economic opportunity for residents.

“Standing in Bayelsa today, what I saw was more than infrastructure,” Tinubu said. “The New Yenagoa City Road 1 is about access. The Angiama–Oporoma Bridge is about connection. The Bayelsa Independent Power Project is about opportunity.”

He stressed that beyond physical structures, the projects were generating employment across various skill levels, from welders and concrete mixers to water suppliers and general labourers, insisting that construction activities remain a critical driver of grassroots economic activity.

The President further underscored the importance of federal-state collaboration, pledging continued partnership with Bayelsa and neighbouring Delta State to drive regional growth and accelerate the transformation of the Niger Delta.

“At every level, government must stay focused on what works for people, and our administration will continue to collaborate with states serious about putting people first,” he said. “When we do this, we are not just building projects. We are building confidence in our future as a people and as a nation.”

Tinubu commended Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri for his people-centred leadership, saying: “I must commend Governor Douye Diri for putting the people first. Thank you, Bayelsa. Nigeria will surely succeed.”

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to transparent and honest governance, stating that ongoing economic reforms, though painful in the short term, were designed to lay a durable foundation for national prosperity.
