NYSC, Police Renew Commitment to Corps Members’ Security Nationwide |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Nigerian Police Force have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at enhancing the security of Corps Members across the country.

The Director General of NYSC, Olakunle Nafiu, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

During the visit, Nafiu congratulated the IGP on his recent appointment and commended him for inaugurating a special tactical team to boost policing operations nationwide. He noted that the Police have remained a critical partner in the successful execution of NYSC programmes since the scheme’s inception.

The NYSC boss appealed for enhanced security coverage for Corps Members and officials, both within orientation camps and at their various places of primary assignment. He also urged the Police to ensure the safety of Corps Members’ properties, including lodges, particularly as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Nafiu further raised the issue of exemption certificates for graduates of the Nigeria Police Academy, explaining that the NYSC Act exempts members of the Armed Forces and paramilitary agencies from national service.

He called for collaboration with the academy’s management to facilitate the issuance of certificates of exemption in line with statutory provisions.

In his response, Disu assured that the Police would continue to provide adequate security for NYSC operations nationwide.

He disclosed that the Force has records of all Corps Lodges across the country, enabling prompt response to security needs when necessary.

The IGP described the proposal for exemption certificates for Police Academy graduates as a welcome development and pledged continued cooperation between the Police and the NYSC.
