Operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS) have foiled an attempt to smuggle vandalised railway materials worth over ₦400 million, marking a significant success in the fight against infrastructure theft.

The suspects were arrested in Nasarawa State after intelligence-led surveillance uncovered the movement of stolen railway components across state lines.

Police said the recovered materials, weighing approximately 60 tonnes, were hidden beneath agricultural produce to avoid detection.

Investigators believe the operation is part of a broader criminal network specialising in the theft and resale of public infrastructure.

Authorities further revealed that officers involved in the operation turned down an ₦100 million inducement, reinforcing the Force’s stance against corruption.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, confirmed that efforts are ongoing to dismantle the syndicate and recover more stolen items.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its resolve to bring perpetrators of economic sabotage to justice and ensure the protection of critical national infrastructure.
