Fubara Withdraws from Rivers APC Governorship Primaries, Cites Peace and Unity |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

In a statement signed by the governor issued on Wednesday, said his decision followed “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family, friends, and political associates. He described the move as difficult but necessary in the interest of peace, stability, and unity in Rivers State.

Fubara stated that leadership requires sacrifice and stressed that personal ambition must give way to the greater good of the people at critical moments.

According to him, Rivers State remains bigger than any individual, adding that maintaining unity and stability in the state must take precedence over personal political interests.

The governor thanked his supporters for their loyalty, sacrifices, and commitment throughout his political journey, while acknowledging the disappointment many of them may feel over his decision to step aside from the race.

He noted that his silence in recent weeks had been “deliberate and strategic,” explaining that it was guided by the higher interest of the state and its people.

Fubara also hinted at political pressures and difficult circumstances surrounding the decision, saying some issues were best handled with “wisdom and restraint” for the sake of peace.

The Rivers governor expressed appreciation to the All Progressives Congress for providing him with a platform during the process and also thanked Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and encouragement.

He urged APC members and supporters to remain united and committed to building a stronger future for the party and the state.

Fubara emphasized that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as an act of weakness, fear, or surrender, but rather as a sacrifice aimed at ensuring peace and unity in Rivers State.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Rivers State until the end of his tenure.
