Tonye Cole Withdraws from Rivers APC Governorship Primaries |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Former governorship aspirant, Tonye P. Cole, has officially withdrawn from the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Rivers State, citing the need for party unity and stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, Cole said his decision followed consultations with party leaders, supporters, and members of his political team after a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the national leadership of the APC.

According to him, the meeting focused on the future of the APC in Rivers State and the importance of presenting a united front ahead of both the primaries and the 2027 polls.

Cole stated that, in the overriding interest of peace, reconciliation, and collective progress within the party, he had chosen to respect the supremacy of the APC and step down from the race.

“I wish to formally announce my withdrawal from the race and pledge my full support and cooperation to whoever emerges as the party’s candidate,” he said.

The APC chieftain described the decision as one reached after “deep reflection, patriotism, and an unwavering commitment” to the stability and growth of both the party and Rivers State.

He also expressed appreciation to party faithful, youths, women groups, elders, and supporters across the state who stood by him during his campaign.

Despite his withdrawal, Cole reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals and aspirations of the APC, promising to continue working for the development of Rivers State and the success of the party.

He further urged his supporters to remain peaceful and cooperate fully with the leadership of the APC as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections.

Cole concluded by calling for unity among party members to ensure victory for President Bola Tinubu, the APC, and all party candidates in the next electoral cycle.
