The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspected cultists and alleged hitmen linked to a series of violent crimes and killings in Ajanmgbadi, Ojo, and surrounding communities.
The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Nwokolo, also known as “Oblo,” 35; Ayola Israel, popularly called “Essy Pawpaw,” 39; Ebuka Nnamdi, 31; and Chinedu Okafor, 22.
According to the police, the suspects were apprehended during a targeted operation at a hotel in Ajanmgbadi, Ojo Local Government Area, following credible intelligence received by the command.
The operation was carried out in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, who had ordered officers to intensify efforts to combat cultism, violent crimes, and other criminal activities across the state.
Preliminary investigations reportedly uncovered evidence linking the suspects to several violent crimes. Police said a video recovered from one of the suspects’ mobile phones allegedly showed the killing of unidentified individuals within Ajanmgbadi and neighbouring communities.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to being members of the notorious Aiye Confraternity and admitted involvement in acts of violence, including killings and other criminal activities that had terrorized residents in the area.
Further searches conducted by investigators led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols, one revolver pistol, and 13 live cartridges believed to have been used in carrying out criminal operations.
The Lagos State Police Command said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement in other criminal cases, identify additional gang members, and apprehend other accomplices still at large.
The command added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
