Tension has heightened in parts of Ogbomoso following a late-night attack on the divisional office of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), where suspected gunmen reportedly stole service firearms from officers on duty.
The incident occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the NIS office located along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Expressway, near the NNPC filling station in Ogbomoso.
According to sources, the assailants stormed the facility while commercial activities were ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market. The attackers reportedly overpowered immigration personnel on duty and made away with a number of service weapons before escaping.
The exact number of firearms stolen has not been officially confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
Reacting to the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he had yet to receive a formal briefing on the incident.
“I have not been briefed on the incident at this time. I will provide updates as soon as the necessary information becomes available,” Ayanlade stated.
As of press time, security agencies had not issued a joint statement regarding the attack. However, investigations are expected to be underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the security breach and to track down those responsible.
The incident has raised concerns among residents and road users in the area, with calls for enhanced security measures around critical government facilities.
