US President Donald Trump is scheduled to deliver remarks from the Rose Garden at the White House on Friday at about 12 p.m. Washington time (1700 UTC), according to Reuters.
The White House schedule did not specify the subject of the president’s remarks, but the announcement came amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran following overnight military exchanges in the Gulf region.
Iran reportedly launched missile and drone attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates early Friday, prompting the UAE to activate its air defense systems around 7 a.m. local time (0300 GMT). Authorities have not yet disclosed the exact targets or extent of damage from the attacks.
Despite the security situation, flight tracking data from FlightRadar24 and Dubai airport information indicated that commercial flights continued operating, with aircraft landing and departing as scheduled later in the morning.
The latest developments followed overnight clashes between US and Iranian forces near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route.
Iran accused the United States of violating an existing ceasefire agreement and said it responded militarily before claiming the situation had returned to normal.
The US military said three American destroyers came under attack during the confrontation but reported no successful hits. Iranian officials, however, claimed their strikes caused “significant damage.”
Speaking after the exchange, Trump insisted that the month-long ceasefire with Iran remained “in effect,” while downplaying the scale of the confrontation.
“We’re negotiating with the Iranians,” Trump told reporters, suggesting diplomatic talks were continuing despite the renewed hostilities.
Meanwhile, the OSINT Technical account on X reported that NASA satellite fire maps detected multiple fires in the Strait of Hormuz following the clashes. The cause and nature of the fires have not yet been confirmed.
